Quintessential Quartets — Great Artistic Rivalries

At each session in this five-week series on major cultural movements, Bruce Elliott (Ph.D. UC Berkeley) presents outstanding artwork from a quartet of the Great Masters in the Western tradition. Naturally, scones and coffee will be served.

What are the forces that spark creativity? Sometimes it's the Muses or the desire for fortune and fame. Often it's the dynamic relationship between individual artists. Whether collaborative or adversarial, historically the range extended from friendly competition to fierce personal rivalry. Highlighting some of the finest paintings ever produced, these charged artistic interactions will feature Dr. Elliott's unique blend of information and entertainment.
